I am the Mask

Being truely alive is an art. And everyone hopes to live life to the fullest. And me being an ordinary person, hopes the same. Many are my friends at many places and most of them tells me that my face is so spontaneous and so very easy to decipher. But the closest of them also tells me that the spontaneity itself is the mask to hide the mask I am putting on. What a terrible thing!! I am being accused of wearing a mask to hide the mask which is masking me?!! That sounds ridiculous.

Many have this notion that our eyes never lies. Even masks have an openning especially for the eyes saying that the mask cannot hide the eyes. But how wrong they are. For the greatest lies were concieved by the eyes.

"Being scarcely cognisant of my movements, and solicitious only to appear calm; and, above all, to control the working muscles of my face-- which I feel rebel insolently against my will, and struggle to express what I had resolved to conceal. Fortunately, I have a viel, the eye-- and it is down." - Jane Eyre.
The eye succeeds where the mask fails.

The mask does not hide the eyes because the eye itself is a conjuror of all lies.

I did not felt any necessity to hide behind any mask. What people failed to understand is that I am not the person who is beneath the mask, I am the Mask they think I am wearing. People are so desperate to discover the person behind the mask that they forgot all about the mask and dismissed it just as a mere mask.

Ordinary person makes ordinary mistakes. And I like many others does the same. I should have hidden behind some mask so people would take off my mask and know me. But I did not. I chose bareness, and people took my bareness as the viel, and the viel as the mask.

But in the end, I end up being a Mask.

I am only an ordinary mask. So, I have no gadgets as the 'Smokin' mask guy.

But then there r people out there who wear masks.
Yes very true. They decieve people, delude the mass and beguile the simples.

though u r pretty straight & very ordinary [now thts a mask :D ]
But that mask is me!! So, since the mask is about being ordinary, and I am the mask, we can deduct logically that I am ordinary!!

And do continue with your Java. It seems we are going to have a really smart and techno-geek of you.

@Phoenix,
Yes, we have been reduced to such a being who decieve at every moment, who delude in every step and who beguile at every opportunity.

Deception!

to the one who considers himself to be ordinary

but i believe all masks are not always that bad....reminds me of that wife who fakes her orgasms to increase that intimacy in the relationship...which works!

i believe all defeats are not always bad....infact helds your head high...reminds me of the battle of alamo....

i believe even errors are sometimes the beautiful ones....surpassin the beauty way ahead...reminds me of the survivors of the nuclear explosion.

i believe only when you're gonna hide...you'll have somethin to show...not without it...

p.s. ...believe me johney...i've met a few people...n' ironically...the ones who were really ordinary..never claimed to be the ones!...but hey!...it's just one of my experiences....i'm not here makin any kind of statement.

@d'yer mak'er
First, I bow unto you, for coming into this humble place of mine. It is an honour to recieve someone as extraordinary as you, but I am afraid, I have only things that are plain, ordinary and homely at this humble place of mine and my modest things may not suit someone as great as you.

"to the one who considers himself to be ordinary"
But I am ordinary. Please do not take me otherwise. In all my life, I have been plain, modest and homely. And I love being ordinary.

"but i believe all masks are not always that bad"
I believe that in this world that we live in, there is no good or bad. Only power and those who are too weak to seek them. And I being one of the second kind. The meek shall inherit the earth but on the other side of eternity.

"i believe even errors are sometimes the beautiful ones"
I see something good in everything I see. For life is beautiful, even the ordinary ones like mine. And me like many others makes mistakes and errors. And after realising it everytime, I smiled at myself, knowing all along what a foolish person I am.

"i believe only when you're gonna hide...you'll have somethin to show...not without it..."
That is true. Only when we have something to hide. But the need to hide never arise in me.

And about your p.s. d'yer mak'er, Those ordinary person who never claimed to be ordinary must be extraordinarily ordinary. But I am only ordinarily ordinary. And their lies the difference.

If my neighbour is a mask,
and that too ordinary,
than I am a flask,
full of bodily fluids,

johney said...

@ha_he_hi
lol, yes you are that but a lot more too. A flask with brains, filled with the bodily fluids of nectar and all good things of life.

But alas for me, I am only a mask. A hard wooden one at that.

@luke
Ofcourse, luke, there are different types of masks as you correctly identified. If people find something on antoher person's face which is incomprehensible to them they just call it a mask. But still the mask is that person.

Thanks for dropping by. Nice lines, you wrote.

"Which I hide from all"

That is what humans do.

@rohit
Thanks Rohit. I just wrote what I feel about.

But it can be both ways...only masks..nothing true..
Or...Nothing is mask...only true.
It is just the way we look at it. Different points of view gives different points of perception.

dont abt u ...
but many of us carry masks and tht too effectively..sometimes cause tht bare n raw truth is just too hard to handle..as they in computer science u need an abstraction....

johney said...

@dhruv
Yes, many use the mask to cover themselves. But I shall not compare to abstraction in computer science. It sounds to artificial and unappropriate.
But wearing mask is not a bad thing. It is a kind of defense mechanism that people use. And like all things in this world that we live in, there is no good or bad, only power and those who are too weak to seek them.

We all have our masks...and a huge collection too. But thts because a person who dares to throw away his mask, is often treated as some kind of outlaw...

We cant shed our masks, theyve become a part of us...they've almost become real...

Yes, and that is what I am reduced to. We of the ordinary plain kind are considered as outlaws in this world that we live in. While the sophisticated ones with thousands of mask to suit every occasion are most accepted ones.

We cant shed our masks, theyve become a part of us...they've almost become real...
Yes, they are the mask now. The hard material merged into their soft skins and have taken the identity of the real person.

All the things I write comes straight from the deepest core of my heart, for I do not write unless it is worth writing. But a Prolific Writer, nah. As from my perception my writings are plain, humble, ordinary, common and homely.

And regarding the mask, yes, most person wears mask, only the material of the mask differs.

And about my post being good, it is good to hear that the post is good, even if you know how bad it is anyway. And writing something bad is a thing I am most proficient with. I do it all the time.

n u also mentioned dat ur eyes can deceive..may b yes bt nt fr long;-)

johney said...

@milo
But the art of wearing the mask is to make others think the way you want them to think.

By not wearing the mask, you make them believe whatever they want to believe.

And it is not only my eyes, any pair of eyes can decieve. But, even to the eyes applies the same old adage of "You can fool some people all the time, and all the people for some time but you cannot fool all the people all the time."
